The 2026 Minimum Wage Rates
From 1 April 2026, the National Living Wage (for those aged 21 and over) is £12.71 per hour.
For younger workers, the National Minimum Wage rates are £10.85 an hour for 18 to 20-year-olds, and £8.00 an hour for those under 18 or qualifying apprentices.
Unpaid working time
Employers often accidentally pay under minimum wage by not paying for all working time. Time spent at training, travelling between work assignments, or passing through security checks must legally be paid.
If you have a 30-minute unpaid lunch break but you are required to answer the phone or stay at your desk, that counts as working time and must be paid.
